Are you experiencing neighbourly noise?
We need to talk a bit about domestic disturbances. You know, that noise that sometimes comes from our neighbours and can make it hard to concentrate or sleep.
We're all here to study and get some rest, right? So, let's be a little more aware of each other - and show consideration when it comes to excessive noise that is - or may be, a nuisance to those around you.
Let's work together to create an environment where everyone feels respected and cared for.
After it's 11pm, let's try to be completely quiet. Before that time, we can still have some fun, but at a moderate level.
In some cases, you do have a neighbour who has moved away from home for the first time and the sense of freedom can get the better of them. Some people simply don't realise how noisy they are and how it affects those around them. Perhaps they've never lived in a small apartment before.
After almost 50 years in the student accommodation industry, we fortunately know how we should try to resolve these situations. Please see below.
Here's a list of things you can do BEFORE filing an official complaint:
- Try to get in touch with your neighbour. If you share a corridor, knock on the door or post a letter to your neighbour on the door if you feel comfortable.
- Try ringing the doorbell downstairs to explain the problem. Then you avoid standing face-to-face with the person in question. Write to the residents' group on Facebook. Perhaps other neighnours agree on the noise level and you canback each other up on the matter.
- Call Securitas for assistance. This is done at a particularly high noise levels, where the security guard can find the correct residence by hearing it from the corridor, +47 90123952.
- If the above-mentioned points do not lead anywhere, you may then send a complaint to the housing administration per e-mail. Remember to list what solutions you have tried before this.
The property management receives a security report from Securitas, so they also catch residents who do not comply with the house rules and consequently issue a written warning for breach of lease.
